Free Desktop Calendar : October 2015

I feel like I wait all year for October to come. The rustle in the leaves and the brisk air is a renewing energy. It's a settle in and get busy month as, for us Etsy sellers, the holidays are just around the corner and there's a lot to be done.

Desktop Calendar : September 2015

It's been almost two years since I've created monthly desktop calendars and I'm so excited to be offering these again... for free! With everyday Near & Dear design order fulfillment on Etsy, monthly A Fresh Bunch design briefs and the other busy business things, I feel like it's time to get back to something a little more fun and less structured. With each day, with each assignment or Etsy order, my design skills and pattern development are honed as I'm always learning and creating, so I think these will be a nice way to let loose and a play a little each month.

November 2013 : Desktop Calendar - Free Download

All might be quiet on the blog-front, but it's certainly not quiet here on the home front! We've been plugging away most of our days on the Etsy shop as October wedding season was filled with gifts for same-sex couples and a lot of last minute brides needing help with their day-of stationary. October was also spent on the very frustrating and drawn out process of buying our first home! More on that once all i's are dotted and t's are crossed.

That leads into November - a time to gather with family and friends. A time to get into the autumn spirit. We're starting to bundle up here in Cleveland as we've already had our first snowfall! This month's calendar pattern has been inspired by snuggly blankets by a warm fire, gathering with family and home.

I absolutely LOVE making these calendars.... My inspiration is, of course, October and all that "fall feeling".  However, I was also really inspired by our 1st wedding anniversary this month on Oct. 13th (1 year down, a lifetime to go!) so I used all the colors of our wedding to create this palette. I'm so glad I waited to design the September calendar until after our mother/daughter/daughter camping and canoe trip! I'll be honest, it is getting well into the month and I wasn't sure I was going to pull a calendar design out of my hat this time but after a much needed weekend away with my mom, I came home with just the right amount of inspiration to create what is my favorite design of the year (so far)! 

So, momma, this one is dedicated to you.

Oh I felt so bad missing June's desktop calendar but Lilla Roger's Make Art That Sells class has been kicking my creative butt and I'm only one person! Something had to give last month... but I hope I made up for it with July's download! Here's my version of a July summer evening in a soothing "red, white and blue" palette. (ok, it's actually coral, peacock, navy and gray but who's checking?)

May 2013 : Desktop Calendar - Free Download

Sorry it's taken me until the 5th to get this out! The Mother's Day rush has (thankfully) kept us really busy this year. I'm also taking a few online business classes and I'll be traveling to Surtex in 2 weeks to scope out the manufacturing and supplier scene for a new line of products I want to launch!

May is a busy month for all and my husband and I have vowed to start taking advantage of the newly sunny Cleveland weather and walk our neighborhood more often for exercise and peace of mind.  On a walk the other day, I finally found my May desktop calendar inspiration. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the blooming forsythia are! Bright and bold yellow flowering branches are just the first sign of true spring around here.

February 2013 : Desktop Calendar - Free Download

Finally, it's February.  I like February - it doesn't seem to drag out like some months (eh-hem, January....), Gavin and my mother share this birthday month so we're going to get to celebrate a little AND the Near & Dear Etsy shop is always super busy which means most of my day is spent interpreting all your love stories!

Plus, I've been working on a new series of hand-drawn patterns. I'm not quite ready to release the new collection yet, but here's a hint:

Surface pattern design and incorporating hand drawn elements into my work is new for me this year. I'm learning to think about design from a different perspective and I'm quite enjoying the challenge! It's been a little while since I've had a clear direction on my artwork (where do I go from here?) and I think I'm slowing honing into that answer.

The color palette is new for me, the hand-drawn motifs are my own illustrations (which is also a new technique I'm liking) and I've also revamped my signature logo. I would appreciate any feedback you might have on the direction of this new design.

January 2013 Desktop Calendar

It's that time again!  The start of a new year, the start of goals you'll set, the start of a movement to push forward.  It's my favorite time of the entire year - the beginning.  A reminder to make the most of what is up ahead.

However, 2013 feels different. I'm certainly looking forward to it - as I always looking forward to a new year - but this time is definitely different. I'm feeling more at ease with the new year. I usually set myself up with lofty goals and big plans to welcome growth {personally, spiritually, professionally} but this year, I feel more settled than usual.  This year there's a solidarity in my life that hasn't always been present and I'm happy to not make major strides rather learn to bask in the glory of what is here, now.

This year I'm happy to focus on consistency, clarity and simplicity.  Those three words will in fact evoke major change in my perspective and lifestyle, but they are not words fueled by the desire to step forward by leaps and bounds.  They are words fueled by the desire to take a step back, slow down and simply enjoy all the love in my life.

It's gonna be a good year.

Tis the season to be busy busy busy!  And we ARE!  (which is why we're 4 days after the fact...)  The studio is up and running about 16 hours a day right now and we're exhausted!  We could sure use a few little elves who know a thing or two about printing.... :)

November Desktop Calendar

Boy, October sure flew by!  I have so many updates to post - about the wedding, our "mini-moon", new designs, some DIY wedding adventures, new holiday ideas in the Etsy shop etc. - but nothing is more pressing at the moment than my November Desktop Calendar! :)

In fact, I've had 4 of you inquire and request I do this quickly as your desktops are outdated!  That just warms my heart. :)

October 2012 Desktop Calendar Download

I was feeling a much needed "design break" so I put together the October Desktop Calendar download today!  The inspiration - imagery and color scheme - has been inspired by our upcoming wedding on October 13th!

It was kind of hard to pin down a color choice for the desktop calendar since the wedding will consist of dried flowers and wild flowers of all different colors and tones - but Olivia's dress is like an eggplant purple and this week I'll be dyeing my petticoat to match her dress (more on that after it's complete!). We're also using a lot of dried lavender throughout the wedding because the lavender flower is supposed to represent good luck, success and devotion.  Sweet, right?

Taking all that into account, I settled on a dusty purple and goldenrod yellow along with the white silhouette of dried flowers feels very much like the decor I've been diy-ing and collecting to pretty up
the farm for our big day!

So, here it is, the most special calendar month of all....  for me anyway. :)

I did it!  I admit, I wasn't so great about August, but here it is September 4th and my calendar wallpaper is done for the month.  (happy dance here)  Seeing as the studio has been really busy lately and we're up to our eyeballs in wedding plans, this is a huge accomplishment!

But when inspiration strikes.... go with it!
